Sunny beach - history and pictures
Sunny Beach is the biggest sea resort in Bulgaria. Resort is founded in 1959, when the communist government launched the construction of the first hotels. A team of architects, urban planners and engineers designed the resort. There is a total surface of 86 hectares of dunes along the beach. The first luxury hotel was the Globus, built in 1962. Russalka was the first bar, and the entertainment facilities Chuchura and Ribarska hija (Fisherman`s Hut) came soon after.

In 1989, when Sunny Beach celebrated its 30th anniversary, the resort had 108 hotels with more than 27 000 beds and over 130 restaurants. Resort was visited by over 7 million tourists until 1990.
